Enjoy the Trip Too!
The trip to Happy Day Lodge (click HERE for map and directions)
is both an adventure and vacation in itself! There is a
whole travelogue of beautiful and interesting sites to stop
and visit en route. The following is but a short list of possibilities.
Mackinaw Bridge
The longest suspension bridge in the world, it connects the upper
and lower peninsulas of Michigan. Both Mackinaw City and St. Ignace
are wonderful cities for a casual tour, and Mackinac Island is also a 'grand'
place to visit.
Soo Locks
Connecting the US with Canada, Sault Saint Marie is a worthy stop to tour the Soo Locks. Watch as ships make their way between Lake Superior and Lake Michigan, or jump on a boat and experience it first hand!
Sault Ste. Marie Duty Free Store
The Canadian side Duty Free offers great bargains on all sorts of merchandise. High quality perfumes, jewelry, clothing... all at considerable discounts.
Lake Superior
Should you take the westerly route from the Soo, you'll find yourself traveling along the shoreline of Lake Superior. There is an abundant number of scenic turnouts, parks, shoals, and beaches to liven up your trip.
Sand River Falls
Though there are many rivers that empty into Lake Superior which you will be crossing en route to Wawa, Sand River Falls is one of the most spectacular. It is well worth the stop to experience these falls firsthand. There are barbecues available for a quick picnic and well groomed trails to explore that reach far upriver.
Magpie High Falls
Just outside of Wawa, there is a magnificent set of water falls that is simply a must-see. The water cascades before your very feet with wooden walkways and viewing piers.
